Arnis – a Filipino pride

One of the characteristics of Filipino martial arts is the use of weapons from the beginning of training. Modern Arnis is no exception. The primary weapon is the rattan stick, called a cane or baston, which varies in size, but is usually about 28 inches in (71 cm) in length. Both single and double stick and against bladed weapons is also part of the curriculum.
Modern Arnis is the system f Filipino martial arts founded by the late Remy Presas as a self defense system. His goal was to create an injury-free training methods as well as an effective self defense system in order to preserve the older Arnis Systems. The fighting includes empty hand techniques which employ the flowing method of training like the tapi – tapi system to develop reflexes, sensitivity, timing and good coordination. Traditional Arnis is usually practiced in three forms of play. They are solo baston or single stick in which a long stick or baston is used; the sword and dagger in which a long stick are wooden dagger are used; and the sinawali, a native term applied because of its intricate movements of the two sticks resemble the wave of sawali, the bamboo split weave pattern used in walling and matting which was common in Visayas islands.
